During the course of your prenatal care, a relationship of mutual trust and respect will develop as your questions are answered and concerns addressed. I strive to fully honor your wishes and tailor my care to your individual needs.

  • Prenatal visits in the comfort of your own home. Visits average an hour in length, but can be longer if additional time is needed. Evening and weekend appointments are available.
  • Visits occur once a month through 28 weeks, every two weeks until 36 weeks, and weekly until delivery with additional visits added as needed.
  • I will provide objective information on all available tests and procedures. These include, but are not limited to: genetic screening, ultrasound, glucose screening, prenatal bloodwork, STI screening, GBS screening, newborn procedures such as Vitamin K, PKU test, eye prophylaxis, and hearing screening. You have the right to refuse or consent without any pressure.
  • Regular monitoring of the baby’s well being by palpation, listening to the baby’s heart rate with a doppler or fetoscope, and noting adequate growth appropriate for gestational age.
  • Regular monitoring of the mothers physical and emotional well being
  • Nutritional assessment and counseling
  • Referrals for ultrasound and genetic screening
  • Referals to childbirth education classes
  • The ability to consult with a high-risk specialist should the need arise.
  • I am available 24 hrs/7 days a week by phone, e-mail, and pager for questions and concerns
  • Lending library for your use.

During the birth...

I understand birth to not only be a normal physiologic process, but a sacred, intimate event in the life cycle of the family. The labor, birth, and the sensitive period of bonding immediately following delivery will not be interrupted or managed unless an issue of safety arises. Gentle, compassionate guidance is offered during labor if the mother so desires.

  • I arrive when you desire my presence.
  • Continuous, yet unobtrusive, presence of your midwife for your labor and birth
  • Regular unobtrusive monitoring of the baby
  • The laboring mother is encouraged to eat, drink, and stay mobile for as long as possible in labor.
  • Siblings are encouraged to attend and help at the birth, as are any other family or friends you wish to have present
  • A birth stool for your use
  • A roomy water birth tub for you to labor and birth in
  • Midwife team will tidy up and do laundry
  • A complete newborn exam with your baby in your arms or right next to you on your bed, after a significant amount of time has passed for bonding
  • The ability to suture most tears incurred during the birth, with anesthetic
  • Help with breastfeeding
  • Midwife team will stay for two hours after the birth
  • Mom fed, showered , and tucked into bed with her baby before the midwives leave
  • In addition to many herbs and homeopathic remedies, I carry resuscitation equipment, anti-hemorrhagics, and suture material including anesthetic.
